Novel food
EU regulation on novel foods, which applies to CBD products intended for oral consumption.
The EU novel food regulation (2015/2283) classifies CBD extracts as novel foods, because they were not consumed to a significant degree in the EU before May 1997. Selling them as a food supplement therefore requires authorisation.
This regulation mainly affects CBD oils, capsules and edibles intended for consumption. CBD cosmetics and topical products do not fall under the novel food regulation.
Hemp Wholesale Europe offers novel-food-compliant product lines and supports B2B partners with the documentation needed for compliant sales across the EU.
